Talbot County Public Schools Library Media Specialist in Easton, Maryland
QUALIFICATIONS:Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification as a Library Media Specialist or eligibility for certification.
REPORTS TO:Principal and Curriculum Specialist for Media Services
JOB GOAL:To cultivate a dynamic and inclusive library media program that empowers students to become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and effective users of information and technology, ultimately enhancing their academic achievement and fostering a love for reading and inquiry.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Planning and Administration: Develop and administer a comprehensive school library media program, implement effective policies and procedures, and collaborate with the curriculum supervisor and administrators to enhance the library program.
- Information Literacy Instruction: Deliver standards-based instruction, collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum, teach research skills, critical thinking, and digital citizenship, and support technology integration.
- Collection Development: Assess community needs, curate a diverse collection aligned with curriculum standards, and evaluate and select appropriate materials in collaboration with teachers and administrators.
- Technology Integration: Stay informed about emerging educational technologies, provide guidance and training on technology tools, and promote digital literacy and responsible use of technology resources.
- Resource Management: Analyze the media space, create collaborative areas, and maintain an organized library collection for equitable access.
- Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, participate in professional development activities, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the school and district.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Exempt position. Ten month work year.
