Amazon Senior Software Development Manager, Integrated Vehicle Test in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

As a senior software leader for the Integrated Vehicle Test team, you will lead an experienced cross-disciplinary team to deliver innovative software solutions to support development and execution of tests for fully integrated satellites. As a senior manager you will play a crucial role in ensuring Kuiper’s readiness for manufacturing and launch through detailed and efficient test operations. You will own the roadmap and software infrastructure for mission critical test systems that enable research and manufacturing teams to conduct integrated vehicle tests. You will work peers and customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, grow your team and iteratively deliver value to our customers.

The ideal candidate will have experience in design and test of complex systems with a proven background in architecting and delivering software tooling for test and manufacturing operations.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work with peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems and test automation infrastructure to support Satellite level test needs in development and manufacturing environments.

  • Build, lead and manage a diverse team of software engineers focused on development and support of infrastructure for integrated satellite tests.

  • Provide technical guidance for the team in the design of mission critical systems.

  • Provide technical leadership for satellite integration campaigns and collaborate with peer teams to deliver a thoroughly tested spacecraft ready for launch.

  • Define team growth expectations and organization strategy.

  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure team and project success.

  • Communicate fluidly across a variety of teams to identify product risks and how they will be addressed to ensure mission success.

  • Juggle multiple priorities while optimizing the system and schedule.

  • Apply critical thinking in complex situations, ambiguous environments and aggressive timelines.

  • Conduct cause of error analysis and drive issue resolutions to improve team and process performance.

Export Control Requirement:

About the team

The Integrated Vehicle Test team is responsible for development and execution of test plans to ensure reliable operation of satellite vehicles in space. The team’s responsibilities include process development, test software and hardware development, and test execution for qualification and production vehicles. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on exciting new responsibilities to ensure project success. Expect to be deployed to address complex problems by identifying the scope of the issue and quickly establishing innovative and functional solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

  • 5+ years of experience in design and validation of hardware/software systems.

  • Solid understanding of Engineering and Testing fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience in development of test plans and protocols related to established Space Hardware test processes (GEVS / SMC-S-016).

  • Hands-on experience with satellite/ground systems software.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $176,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
