We are seeking a smart, innovative and technically apt Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer (Sr. BIE) with a passion for data, analytics, insights and technology who is eager to have a broad impact across one of the fastest growing e-commerce businesses in the world. You will own data modeling, building real time analytical platforms using big data tools and AWS technologies. You will be part of the MarTech and Ops Team (MTO), offering a unique opportunity to integrate and shape the overall marketing tech stack ranging from onsite, offsite analytics for a rapidly growing organization, to developing inbound/outbound data pipelines for reporting and segmentation tools.

You will succeed in this role if you have strong technical acumen and experience in developing reporting infrastructures and flexible front-end tools. You will conduct deep dive analyses of business growth opportunities and formulate conclusions and recommendations to be presented to senior leadership.

Key job responsibilities

• Work at both the strategic and tactical level to champion bold, innovative data modeling and analytics

• Own generating actionable insights through the development of metrics and dashboards

• Analyze relevant business information, and uncover trends and correlations to develop insights that can materially improve our product and strategy decisions

• Provide insights to Marketing and Product Management teams as new initiatives are being identified, prioritized, implemented and deployed

• Develop clear communications for recommended actions

• Establish new, scalable, efficient, automated processes for tracking and reporting on progress of initiatives

• Work to accelerate Amazon Payments machine learning efforts to scale globally

A day in the life

• Directly interface with business customers, gathering requirements and delivering complete BI solutions.

• Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of data to help automate and optimize solutions to key business problems.

• Drive roadmap and sprint planning cycles, participate and support business reviews, annual planning and goal setting exercises.

• Work closely with software engineering and data engineering teams to build scalable data infrastructure solutions.

• Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

• Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of SQL experience

  • 7+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or related technical field

  • 7+ years of relevant experience as a business intelligence engineer/analyst, creating reports, using metrics and data to backup business cases, planning, and decisions

  • 7+ years of hands on experience in data extraction, transformation, data mining and clean large (multi-TB) data sets

  • Experience with data visualization software (Tableau, QuickSight)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs

  • Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience operating large data warehouses

  • Experience with AWS technologies

  • Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

  • Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results

  • Experience in environment with large-scale data sets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
